Your Journey Starts Here...

Remember, James Thurlow's knowledge of England's historical places comes from his own personal experience of living and working among the Nobility and the Monarchy. To visit these places with merely a guide book - or somebody who has simply memorized the guide book - is to deny yourself the true essence of England's majestic history...

England's Rose

The places special in the life of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Diana, Princess of Wales - James Thurlow, Tours of England

When we heard the news of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, on a Sunday morning in Paris, the shock across the world was palpable.

This was a face better known than any in history. A name, a person, we all felt we knew, who everybody thought would be with us forever.

But now she was gone.

The late Diana, Princess of Wales: a journeySt. Paul's Cathedral - James Thurlow, Tours of England

This very special tour begins at St. Paul's Cathedral, Sir Cristopher Wren's masterpiece and the setting for the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and his young bride Lady Diana Spencer.

Next we move to Kensington Palace and the State Apartments. This was once the centre of family life for the Princess and her precious children, William and Harry.

It was here, among the revealed splendour of some 300 years of court tradition, that the excursions and visits were planned which demonstrated the Princess of Wales' determination that her children should be aware of life beyond the palace and the privilege; the trips to theme parks and to homeless shelters.

Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground - James Thurlow, Tours of EnglandDay One ends with a visit to the memorial playground, where the Princess' love of children and her dedication to their quality of life is embodied not in words or statues but in the simple pursuit of fun.

On Day Two we travel 100 miles North from London to Althorp; home of the Spencer family since 1500.

The home where Diana grew up, it is now her final resting place; a place of pilgrimage still for some and the setting for a sensitive exhibition of her life and work.
